Dr. Mary Dittrich
Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Dittrich is Chief Medical Officer at U.S. Renal Care. She co-founded Boise Kidney & Hypertension Institute in 2005 and was part of the Boise Kidney team that received the RPA Practice Excellence Award in 2010. Over the years, she has served as a sub investigator in various clinical research trials at Boise Kidney, and as the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board for Liberty Dialysis, Inc., an organization which partnered with nephrologists to own and operate 280 dialysis facilities serving 20,000 ESRD patients. She also co-founded numerous dialysis clinics in the states of Idaho and Alaska, where she served as a medical director.

Dr. Dittrich earned her medical degree from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado and received the Gold Headed Cane award given for outstanding potential as a physician. She subsequently completed a residency in Internal Medicine followed by a Chief Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle. She went on to complete fellowship training in Nephrology also at the University of Washington. After completing her fellowship training, Dr. Dittrich worked at the University of Washington in the area of transplantation. Dr. Dittrich received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Creighton University where she received the Spirit of Creighton Award, the highest student award presented by the University.

Dr. Dittrich played instrumental roles serving as Chief Medical Officer of Liberty Health Partners and Senior Medical Director of Remedy Partners, the largest Awardee Convener under Medicare’s bundled payment program, which currently manages $9 billion of medical spend for Medicare. She currently serves as President of Liberty Administrative Services and CMO for Glacier Management Services in Alaska.

Dr. Stefano Emili

Board Certified: Nephrology

Dr. Emili graduated from The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, PA in 1991. He completed his undergraduate degree in biology at Lafayette College in his hometown of Easton, PA in 1987.   He completed an internship in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1992, and an internship and residency in internal medicine in 1995.  Dr. Emili completed his fellowship in Nephrology at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1997. His professional career has spanned three states beginning as a clinical instructor at Charleston Memorial Hospital in South Carolina. Next, he and his family moved to Ohio where he joined a private Nephrology practice and worked from 1998-2006. Finally, Dr. Emili started his current practice, Aurora Kidney in Anchorage, Alaska in the summer of 2006.  Dr. Emili is board certified in nephrology and specializes in diseases of the kidneys and hypertension. It has been a lifelong dream of his to reside and practice in Alaska. He spends his time with his family hiking, fishing, and enjoying the great outdoors!

Dr. Trang Ngo

Board certified: Internal Medicine and Nephrology

Dr. Trang Ngo is a Nephrology Specialist in Anchorage, Alaska. She graduated with honors in 2009. She received her nephrology training at the University of Texas in Houston and completed her internal medicine residency in Norwalk, Connecticut. Prior to becoming a doctor, she was a board-certified nurse practitioner. She enjoys traveling and going to national parks. She and her husband relocated to Alaska from Idaho in 2018.

Dr. Jeremy Gitomer
Medical Director

Board certified: Internal Medicine, Pediatric Nephrology and Adult Nephrology

Dr. Gitomer has been in practice in Anchorage since 2002. He received his MD from University of Texas Medical School, where he also completed his Residency and Fellowship. He is currently Medical Director of the Liberty Dimond Dialysis, Liberty Denali Dialysis, Providence Renal Care Unit, and Alaska Regional Renal Unit. You will often see him speaking at various venues. He appreciates the long term connections he develops with his patients through managing their illness. He enjoys family, traveling, and riding his fat tire bike.

Dr. David Lefler

Board certified: Internal Medicine and Nephrology. 

After graduating from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM), Dr. Lefler began his training with a traditional one year rotating internship followed by a three year categorical internal medicine residency.
Dr. Lefler found kidney patients to be medically challenging, and decided to then pursue specialized training in nephrology and hypertension. He completed a nephrology fellowship at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). After he completed his fellowship training Dr. Lefler remained at MUSC where he served as clinical faculty active in both clinical and basic science research. He then transitioned to private practice in 2003.
Dr. Lefler enjoys all aspects of nephrology including hemodialysis vascular access procedures and interventions to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease. He has been active in the construction of outpatient dialysis clinics, vascular access centers and has also served as medical director for several dialysis units. Nephrology & Hypertension Associates of Alaska is an independent nephrology practice in Alaska.
As a nephrology provider, Dr. Lefler is a fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and the American Society of Nephrology (FASN). He is also certified by the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology (ASDIN).


Dr. Lefler is originally from Virginia. He and his family moved to Alaska in 2011. They enjoy the many outdoor activities in Alaska.

Dr. Chad Barnes

Board certified: Internal Medicine and Nephrology

Dr. Barnes has been practicing adult nephrology in Alaska since 2011. He trained at The Ohio State University and his medical interests include hypertension, dialysis, and chronic kidney disease. He also has training in interventional nephrology. He is currently board certified in nephrology and internal medicine. In his free time Dr. Barnes enjoys skiing, playing soccer, and enjoying the Alaskan outdoors.

Dr. AMALA TALASILA/KANURY

Board certified: Internal Medicine and Nephrology

Dr. Talasila/Kanury completed her Nephrology and Internal Medicine training at University of Massachusetts and Maimonides Medical Center in NY. She studied Biomedical engineering in undergrad. She was attracted to Nephrology as it is a field of clinical practice that excellently combines both medical and engineering science. She moved to Alaska and joined our practice in 2018.  In her free time, Dr.Talasila/Kanury loves exploring new places, spending time with family and hiking.
